Spring & Summer

Walks


Os has wonderful hiking opportunities. Choose between leisurely strolls and more challenging hikes.

The Coastal Path runs along Bjørnefjorden from Os town centre, past Solstrand and onwards to Moldaneset. Relax, breathe in the fresh fjord air and and enjoy a stroll along the shore.

Hikes


Solstrand is a great starting point for a hike. The mountains around Os all boast magnificent views of the fjord and surrounding mountains. The hotel reception provides maps of three different routes with different difficulties. Feel free to ask us!

Boat trips 

We lend out rowing boats and the Norwegian varieties Oselvar and strandebarmer to our guests. The hotel has its own deep-water quay, and boats with crew can be hired for longer trips.

Day trip by boat to Rosendal

Travel to Rosendal by sea with the Hardangerfjord express. Enjoy breath-taking views of fjords and mountains from the boat window (or on deck, weather permitting). The arrival in the beautiful fjord village Rosendal, in particular, is something to look forward to.



The trip can be booked ahead and includes a boat round-trip Os–Rosendal (1 hour), followed by a guided tour of the manor at Baroniet Rosendal, and a two-course lunch at Rosendal Gardens café. Read more here


Kayak rental

Come explore Bjørnefjorden in a sea kayak! We have one double and two single Inukshuk sea kayaks for rent.

Aktiv organises guided tours of the Bjørnefjord basin on request. They can guide groups of up to 40 people. Aktiv provides kayaks and equipment.

Helicopter sightseeing

Experience a tour over the fjord to Folgefonna, Norway's third largest glacier, or fly out to sea to Marstein lighthouse – just 10 minutes from Solstrand. The lighthouse is located on a small island at the very mouth of the fjord. The helicopter will pick you up in the garden at Solstrand.

Our partner Fonnafly offers 20–60 minutes sightseeing, depending on your wishes. They have different types of helicopters with a capacity of 3–5 people. 



Golf

Bjørnefjorden Golf Club is just a ten-minute walk from Solstrand. The club has a 9-hole idyllic forest course and good training conditions for driving range, putting and pitching green. Two Full Swing golf simulators are available all year. Rental equipment available.



The Oselvar workshop

The Oselvar workshop in Os town centre furthers local boat building traditions from the 18th century. Boat builders from Os were famous for the light and nimble vessels they created. The workshop is just a 20-minute walk along the Coastal Path from Solstrand. Guided tours on request.

Oseana

Oseana Art and Culture Centre is situated in Os town centre, just a 20-minute walk along the Coastal Path from Solstrand.

The cultural centre offers everything from opera to classical music and revues, festivals and rock concerts. In the art museum, the "Grieg collection" houses most of the national romantic works from the collection of ship-owner Per Grieg Sr., and the temporary exhibitions present a great variety in themes and art forms. Enjoy great views of the fjord from the café. Take a look at their programme at Oseana.


Excursions



Bergen

Bergen is only 30 km from Solstrand and is a city full of European history, culture and strong traditions. The city was founded by the king Olav Kyrre in 1070 and was the centre of trade in Norway for a long time. In recent years, the city between seven mountains has been appointed a World Heritage City and is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Bergen has small-town charm and atmosphere, and the locals proudly share their enthusiasm with visitors. Find more information at Visit Bergen.

Fløien

Lookout point with great views over the city. A walk down to the city centre along Fløysvingene is highly recommended – all year!


Edvard Grieg's home, Troldhaugen, is beautifully situated by Nordåsvannet between Bergen and Os. Today Troldhaugen is a much-visited museum with concerts and guided tours.

Lysøen

Violinist Ole Bull built the summer villa Lysøen in 1872–73 as a meeting place for his many friends and contemporaries in arts and culture. In summer there are concerts and guided tours of the villa. 13 km long walking paths criss-cross the island, enabling great walking experiences!

Lysøen is only a 15-minute drive from Solstrand. In summer, a ferry leaves for Lysøen from Buena Kai every hour between 11 am and 3 pm.

Baroniet in Rosendal

Rosendal is situated 2.5 hours from Solstrand by car, or 1 hour by boat. Here you will find Norway's only barony, often described as "Scandinavia's smallest castle". The building was erected by Ludvig Rosenkranz and was completed in 1665. The manor is surrounded by stunning scenery and has a beautiful Renaissance garden, an art gallery and a café. This lovely Hardanger village is also home to one of the country's oldest churches from The Middle Ages.

May–September:

Day trip by boat to Rosendal from Os

Travel to Rosendal by sea with the Hardangerfjord express. The trip must be booked ahead of time and includes a boat round-trip Os–Rosendal (1 hour), followed by a guided tour of the manor at Baroniet Rosendal, and a two-course lunch made with fresh ingredients from the barony gardens. And why not stop by Steinparken – a taste of Folgefonna National Park.

Horse and carriage rides

It is a 15-minute walk from the quay in Rosendal to Baroniet. The experience of being picked up at the quay in a horse and carriage is sure to add an extra dimension to your trip.

Folgefonna 

Folgefonna is a 2.5-hour drive from Solstrand (and two ferries). Folgefonna is Norway's third largest glacier, and offers spectacular views of fjords and mountains. Hike on the blue ice, go ice climbing or summer skiing.

Spa and wellness
