At Solstrand we give you space to celebrate, room for reflection and time to meet. Whether you are here as part of a celebration, a conference, a meeting or enjoying a private long weekend, we hope that your surroundings make an impact on you.
Solstrand hotel is located at the edge of Bjørnefjorden in Os municipality – a mere 30 km from Bergen Airport Flesland and downtown Bergen. The grand Swiss style hotel has been here ever since Norway's first prime minister, Christian Michelsen, turned the first soil in 1895.
We believe that a visit to Solstrand should be a rewarding experience for the whole person. We would like to move both body and soul – and offer you a change of pace. The food we serve is deeply rooted in coastal culture, and we offer Western Norwegian specialities as well as continental flavours. We are happy to serve our guests local fish and seafood. Our wellness area lets you unwind in hot therapy pools, swim a few laps in the pool, dip into the cold pool, relax in the sauna or gaze at the stars in our outdoor pool. We recommend taking a fjord bath from our bathing pier – it is open all year! Or if you feel like running miles on the treadmill, stop by our fitness room.
Everything at Solstrand, from the architecture to the choice of stone in the stairs leading from the pool and down towards the fjord, is based on Norwegian nature and culture. Wood and stone are used throughout, and often Norwegian varieties such as oak, birch and soapstone. The walls of our rooms and parlours are adorned with art that is chosen specifically to heighten the experience.
When standing outside, looking at Bjørnefjorden you may witness fantastic changes in light and weather. The sky is high and the landscape wide open – all year. Stormy autumns bring white-topped waves, and in summer, windless days when the still fjord mirrors the landscape perfectly – and every season bring you plenty of fresh air.
Turn your gaze to the southwest and you see the broad peninsula Bjørnetrynet. Follow the panorama further south to see Reksteren, Stord, Tysnes, Kvinnheradsalpene and further towards Rosendal. Straight ahead lie five small islands – Sandholmene. The one furthest away is Ysteholmen, followed by Høgholmen, Langholmen, Insteholmen and Vetlekokken. The islands are part of the hotel property and are home to several bird sanctuaries.
If you walk down to the beach you encounter the bust of Christian Michelsen, Solstrand's developer. In 1896 he erected the hotel that has captivated guests from home and abroad ever since.
Around you on all sides is our 124 acre garden. Four gardeners work here all year to ensure that the lawn, the flowers and the shoreline look their best. Stroll along gravel paths and stop by the garden pavilion – perfect for good conversations. Dip your toe in the water on the beach, take a fjord bath from our pier or skip stones across the water.
