A European Capital of Culture, Bergen and all it has to offer is just half an hour away. The mountains and glaciers await the agile. Lysøen and Rosendal are both esthetic and historical experiences. And the fjord and sea promenade welcomes you – regardless of the season or weather. Western Norway is calling.

Wander along the shoreline

Experience artist Svein Rønning’s promenade along the waterfront – with views of Tysnes and the Kvinnherad alps. Sit down on one of the many benches in the garden and feel how the open landscape influences the body.

Row in traditional wooden Norwegian boats

In the summer months you can rent one of our traditional Norwegian wooden rowboats: Oselvar and Strandebarmer. The boats are free to borrow, and a paddle in Bjørnafjorden in a classic wooden boat is an experience you will remember.

Kayak – paddle in the fjord

Maybe you will spot the pod of porpoises that call the fjord their home. We have both a single and double touring kayak which you can borrow. If you want to make a day of it out on the fjord, we recommend a guided tour with Bjørnafjorden Opplevelser.

Bjørnafjorden Golf Course and Country Club

Bjørnafjorden Golf Club is a peaceful 10-minute walk from the hotel. The golf club offers rental equipment and provides a simple food service in the indoor cafeteria. Golfing facilities consist of a 9-hole golf course, driving range and golf simulator.

Vedholmen Gallery – art exhibitions

Vedholmen Gallery is run by husband and wife Peter Marron and Vibeke Harild, both of whom are ceramists. The gallery displays a number of exhibition sales throughout the year. Connected to the gallery you will also find an art shop. Vedholmen Gallery is located on Lepsøy island, a short hour by bus from Os center.

Oseana – Art and Culture Center

The Oseana Art and Culture Center located in central Os hosts concerts, exhibitions, lectures and other cultural events. The Center also houses Per Grieg’s art collection. Oseana is just a short, pleasant stroll away from the hotel.

Bergen, a UNESO World Heritage City, is just a 30-minute journey away from Solstrand. Use this opportunity to view exhibitions at KODE Art Museums and Composer Homes or Bergen Kunsthall, visit the pier dating back to the 11th century, and take a trip out to the tip of the Nordnes peninsula. Tonight’s three-course dinner is waiting for you on your return.

The Barony in Rosendal – with the Manor House dating back to 1665 – is well-located “between fjord, glacier, mountains and waterfalls”. 1,700 rosebuds bloom in the garden. The Great Hall is open for visitors. You can travel by boat from Os to Rosendal in just under 1.5 hours.

On Lysøen island you will find Ole Bull’s villa and Lysøen museum. Lysøen is not just an idyllic gem, but is a piece of Norway’s cultural history. The island and museum are 17 minutes away by car. Or take the boat and make it a full-day trip.

Glacier hiking is a powerful experience, and Folgefonna is Norway’s third largest glacier. Folgefonni Breførarlag lead you and the rope team safely up on the glacier – and safely down again.
