Our location offers a variety of experiences; at the hotel, in the surrounding area and in the region. Spend the day in Solstrand Spa and Bath, strolling in the garden and along the sea. Maybe a trip on the fjord in a kayak or rowing boat can be tempting?

In less than an hour from Solstrand you can experience the European Capital of Culture, Bergen and all it has to offer. The mountains and glaciers awaits. Lysøen and Rosendal are both esthetic and historical experiences. Western Norway is calling.

Experience our promenade along the waterfront – with views of Tysnes and the Kvinnherad alps. Just as beautiful in a storm as in calm weather.

Take a stroll along the promenade around the property. Make a little stop in our gazebo. Sit down on one of the many benches in the garden and feel how the open landscape influences the body.

Fjord bath

At Solstrand we swim in the sea year-round. You can stroll from the pools and saunas indoors right to the fjord. A staircase elegantly leads you out – or you can wade along the pebble beach.

Enjoy our swimming pool, heated outdoor pool, therapy pool with massage jets, Finnish sauna, steam bath, sanarium, icy pool and fitness room. The pools and saunas are open every day from 07.00 -22.00. All children are welcome in the pools and saunas, except Fridays and Saturdays between 18:00 and 22:00.

Kayak – paddle in the fjord

Maybe you will spot the pod of porpoises that call the fjord their home. We have both a single and double touring kayak which you can borrow. If you want to make a day of it out on the fjord, we recommend a guided tour with Bjørnafjorden Opplevelser.

OSELVAR

Row in traditional wooden Norwegian boats

In the summer months you can rent one of our traditional Norwegian wooden Oselvar rowboats. A paddle in Bjørnafjorden in a classic wooden boat is an experience you will remember.

The Oselvar is Norway’s national boat and has been built in Os since 1750. If you want to learn more, we recommend visiting the Oselvar workshop.

The boats are free to borrow. You reserve time and borrow life jackets at the reception.

Kayaking, fishing, diving or a fjord cruise? If you are a group of people or want a guided experience, our good partner Bjørnafjorden Opplevelser can tailor make a memorable experience for you. They can offer experiences at Solstrand’s property or at their boat house in Lepsøy, about 15 minutes drive by car from Solstrand.

STROLL

Coastal path

The coastal path stretches from Osøyro to Moldaneset. Solstrand is located along the trail, you choose whether you want to walk for about 20 minutes to Osøyro the city center or walk around Moldaneset, a trip that takes two hours. On the way to the city center of Os, you pass the historic cluster yard Lyngheim. Here you will find a playground for children. If you choose the walk to Moldaneset, you will pass Moldegård surrounded by a large park. At Moldaneset there are several nice bathing places where you can enjoy the afternoon sun.

Hike

Borgafjellet

Not far from Solstrand you will find Borgafjellet. Choose between starting the trip at the hotel or drive the first part by car. After a steep climb up to 353 masl it is nice to enjoy the packed lunch at the day trip cabin Borgabu. Here you can enjoy the view of the Bjørnafjord, Tysnes, Fitjar and the city mountains in Bergen. Return trip from Solstrand takes about 2.5 hours. If you want a longer trip, you can continue all the way to Møsnuken, or to Tøsdal with a return along the Os river.

Hike

Liafjellet

Start the trip at the hotel or drive the first part by car. Liafjellet is one of the most used hiking areas in Os. At the top you will find Storevarden, 259 masl, with a beautiful view of Strøno, Halhjem, Austevoll, Sotra, Fitjar and the city mountains in Bergen. Return trip from Solstrand takes about 2.5 hours.

Lysøen

The home of composer Ole Bull will be fully renovated over the next few years, and therefore will be closed for visitors. You can still visit the island, where you will find gorgeous nature, 13 km of trails, a gazebo, and on the highest point of the island (at 76 meters above sea level), an observation tower. Lysøen has their own shuttle boat that travels between Buena Quay and Lysøen Tuesdays to Sundays from 11.00-16.30h. The drive between Solstrand ans Buena Quay takes 15 minutes. Art & Culture

Oseana – Art and Culture Center

The Oseana Art and Culture Center located in central Os hosts concerts, exhibitions, lectures and other cultural events. The Center also houses Per Grieg’s art collection. Oseana is just a short, pleasant 20 minutes stroll away from the hotel. Cafe with a nice view over the fjord.

Vedholmen Gallery

Vedholmen Gallery is run by husband and wife Peter Marron and Vibeke Harild, both of whom are ceramists. The gallery displays a number of exhibition sales throughout the year. Connected to the gallery you will also find an art shop. Vedholmen Gallery is located on Sundøy island, 30 minutes by bus from Os center or 15 minutes by car from Solstrand.

The Oselvar Boat Builder’s Yard – 1000-year-old boat tradition

The Oselvar is a wooden boat from Hordaland – with a history that traces back to the Viking Age. The Oselvar Boat Builder’s Yard is the only remaining workshop constructing this boat. The boat yard is a 20-minute walk from Solstrand. Here you can see craftsmen at work, the workshop therefore has limited opening hours.

Golf

Bjørnafjorden Golf Club

Bjørnafjorden Golf Club is a peaceful 10-minute walk from the hotel. The golf club offers rental equipment and provides a simple food service in the indoor cafeteria. Golfing facilities consist of a 9-hole golf course, driving range and golf simulator.

Hardangerfjordekspressen

Day trip by boat to Rosendal

From Os quay there are daily boat trips to Rosendal. The small castle Baroniet from 1665 is well located “between fjords, fountains, mountains and waterfalls.” In the garden, 1700 rose bushes bloom. The Knights’ Hall is open to visitors.

We also recommend a visit to the art gallery in the charming farm yard Guddal. It has periodic exhibitions of the best of Norwegian contemporary art. A section devoted to the graphic art, ceramics, glass, jewelery and textiles. Member of Norwegian cultural heritage. Offers light lunch and cakes.

Day trip to Bergen

Bergen is only 30 minutes away from Solstrand by car. We recommend you stop at Edvard Grieg’s home, Troldhaugen on the way to Bergen.

If you want to travel by public transport, you can take bus number 600 from Os to Bergen and return by express boat in the afternoon.

Take the opportunity to see exhibitions at Kode, Mariakirken, the Leprosy Museum or enjoy the view from Fløien. We also recommend a visit to the pier from the 1000s; The Hanseatic Museum, Håkonshallen and the Rosenkrantz Tower.

Explore the region by car

Day trip by car

A European Capital of Culture, Bergen and all it has to offer is just half an hour away. The mountains and glaciers await the agile. Lysøen and Rosendal are both esthetic and historical experiences. Western Norway is calling.

We recommend a full or half-day trip to Hardanger, a day trip with three ferries to Bekkjarvik or a day trip to Folgefonna. Our receptionists are happy to help you with driving routes and maps.
